Medical Director

Dr. Matthew Harris is the Medical Director for Northwell Health's Crisis Management and Business Continuity Teams. He additionally serves as the Medical Director of the Neonatal and Pediatric Critical Care Transport Team, Associate Medical Director for the Northwell Center for Emergency Medical Services, and Attending Physician in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine.

In these roles, Dr. Harris provides clinical oversight to the several groups within Crisis Management and Business Continuity team. Most recently, he has begun providing clinical guidance to the Community and Public Health Group.

Over the past two years, Dr. Harris has acted as the Medical Director for Northwell's COVID 19 vaccine program and has provided clinical support to the response to the Monkeypox Pandemic. He has developed clinical and operational guidelines, effected safety and quality support programs, and has represented Northwell's efforts to local and national media outlets.

Dr. Harris joined Northwell in 2013 as a pediatric emergency medicine fellow, becoming an attending physician at Cohen Children's Medical Center in 2016, the same here he was named assistant medical director for the Northwell Center for EMS. After a brief stint at the Children's Hospital of Colorado during his wife's fellowship, he returned to Northwell in 2020 as the inaugural medical director for emergency management. He serves on several regional, statewide, and national committees related to prehospital care and emergency preparedness.

Dr. Harris earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Brandeis University in Massachusetts, followed by his Medical Degree at the University of Tel Aviv in Israel. He completed his residency in General Pediatrics at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine here at Cohen Children's Medical Center, the tertiary children's hospital of the Northwell Health System. Dr. Harris completed a second fellowship in Emergency Medical Services and Disaster Medicine at Newark Beth Israel, and is board-certified in each of his areas of training.
